The aim of this systematic review was to identify problems that may delay the deactivation of implantable
cardioverter-defibrillators and address possible considerations for their management to improve end-of-life care. The authors conclude that ongoing discussions with patients are needed as well as the development of a protocol or policy to guide care at the end of life.
